Cord released, I got it home and amazingly enough, it powered up and played. I had to lever the highboy up with one hand while pulling on the cord with the other, all the while watching the top of the chest to make sure that neither the DX nor I got hit by falling furniture. Unfortunately, the power cord was caught under a highboy, and this being an original DX7, the cord could not be disconnected. Aphex Twin and Brian Eno DX7 Patches for Quantum.also Fairlight Samples was created by peake Just in case anybody finds this interesting- I stumbled across a guy on gearslutz who has taken 139 Yamaha dx7 and dx9 patches made by Aphex Twin and Brian eno and imported/resaved these patches into his quantum.(kernal/operator matrix).
Four or five missing keys, lots of scuff marks, but it had a cartridge and I figured what the heck, I'll take it home and at least give it decent burial. As I got there I saw it was a pretty banged up DX7. Anyway, as I approached it I saw a keyboard on the ground. A few months ago I was taking a walk in my neighborhood and saw a pile of furniture and junk in front of a house. Man, this must be one of my all-time favorite GS threads! I can't wait to watch the Eno YT clip. It defined the direction of Yamahas entire keyboard line for the next seven years after its introduction. The DX7 was the first mass-produced synthesizer to use frequency modulation extensively, and the first digital synthesizer to sell in large quantities. four on the original DX7 and you can use that to create non-repeating patches. A digital synthesizer introduced by Yamaha in 1983. Sims2001here are his mp3s, though i wish he'd also played an octave lower: Brian Enos involvement in music spans all three, from his successful.
The Solid Bass sound is patch 32 in the bank. Click on the link below, to save a bank of DX7 patches to your PC. I have authentically recreated this sound for the DX7. This sound is a very commonly used bass sound in dance/techno genres. It doesnt always have to sound like Tina Turners harmonica solo. Boards of Canada leaned heavily on them too. The Yamaha DX100 (a cheaper, 4-operator FM synth from '85) contains a preset called "Solid Bass". Check out Aphex Twins or Brian Enos DX7 patches if youd like a little subtlety.
With all the disclaimers out of the way, here's what Steve wrote long ago on his website (which is now down): i don't have my tx7 or tx802 out to compare the sound to the lately bass and solid bass patches in my v50. Just for fun i googled "lately bass dx7" and came across this stuff at an old site via. It looked like something off the bridge of the Death Star, and it sounded amazing. i know it's a popular sound, so i looked for a lately bass patch sheet. The DX7 II did away with the membrane switches, garish turquoise and hissy 12-bit DACs of the original model and presented FM synthesis in all its gleaming 16-bit glory. i know this is an eno thread but when i saw patch sheets, i remembered seeing a solid bass patch sheet for 4-ops.
